        | Landscape Narrative | Forested ridge of Blue Ridge Mountain with Appalachian Trail. Behind cliffs are camp sites with tents on sample date. There is an extensive pole-size forest (red oak, chestnut oak, tuliptree, and poplar) on ridge top.;Exposed cliff top and faces of popular climbing / hicking destination along the Appalachian Trail. Site is near contact of Harpers and Weaverton formations, I am guessing the cliff is Weaverton quartzite. Cliff top is probably more open than natural due to clearing and trampling. Cliff is 10-20 m tall with massive angular slabs at base, umbillicate lichens are only on faces, possibly due to trampling (?). |
        | Representativeness | Cliff top and upper faces, sampled near WV/VA border to avoid heavily trampled and currently occupied view area on WV side, the habitat is the same. |
